Kruger from Marloth

Malelane gate

The other way into Kruger from Marloth Park. It's a longer drive than Crocodile Bridge, and it's the gate to use for Berg-en-Dal and the south-west of the park.

Malelane gate is 35-39 km from Marloth Park, west along the N4 through Malelane town. It keeps the same hours as every Kruger gate. Use it for Berg-en-Dal and the south-west of the park, or when Crocodile Bridge is closed or full. For Lower Sabie, Crocodile Bridge is much closer.

Getting there from Marloth Park

Malelane gate is about 35-40 km west of Marloth Park. Take the N4 west to Malelane, and the gate is about 6 km from town. That's more than twice as far as Crocodile Bridge, which is 15-20 km away.

The N4 from Hectorspruit east past Marloth Park to Komatipoort is being resurfaced, with stop-go sections, until about mid-2027. Give yourself extra time until the work is done.

Hours and contact

Malelane keeps the general Kruger hours. It opens at 05:30 from October to March and 06:00 from April to September, and closes at 17:30, 18:00 or 18:30 depending on the month. See gate times for each month.

The gate's phone number is +27 13 735 6152. Malelane has been a cash-free gate since December 2023, so pay the conservation fee by card. From 1 November 2026 it's R140 a day for a South African adult. See Kruger fees for the other rates.

If you've booked a night at Berg-en-Dal or Malelane camp and an emergency makes you late, SANParks runs an escort from the gate until 21:00 for R500 per vehicle. It isn't open to day visitors.

What's past the gate

  • Berg-en-Dal rest camp is 12 km from the gate. It has a picnic and braai area for day visitors.
  • Malelane camp is a small camp 3-5 km from the gate, for overnight guests only.
  • The H3 is the main tar road north to Skukuza.
  • The S110 (Matjulu Loop) runs past Berg-en-Dal dam and camp.
  • The S114 heads east along the Crocodile River and links up with the S25 towards Crocodile Bridge.

Some gravel roads are still closed after the January 2026 floods, so ask at the gate which ones are open before you plan a loop. Ask at the gate which ones are open.

Queues and quotas

Malelane is one of Kruger's busiest gates. Expect morning queues on public holiday weekends, much as at Crocodile Bridge. It has a day-visitor quota too, and the same pre-booking rules apply. See quotas and pre-booking before a holiday visit.

After heavy rain in January 2026, while Crocodile Bridge was closed, SANParks put quotas on Malelane, Numbi and Paul Kruger gates.

Malelane or Crocodile Bridge

Go in at Malelane if you want to spend the day around Berg-en-Dal or drive the H3 towards Skukuza. It's also the way in when Crocodile Bridge is closed, as it was after the January 2026 floods.

For the rest, Crocodile Bridge is the better gate from Marloth. It's less than half the drive, and the H4-2 to Lower Sabie starts right there.
