Things to do in Marloth Park

Most days here start with Kruger or with whatever is walking past the stoep. Here's what else is worth your time, in Marloth Park and a short drive out.

Watching animals is the main thing to do in Marloth Park. Kudu, zebra, giraffe and warthog walk between the houses, and Kruger's Crocodile Bridge gate is 15-20 km away. In Marloth itself you can drive Lionspruit, the fenced reserve where the lions live, sit at the river lookouts facing Kruger or book a sunset drive. A golf course and the Mozambique and Eswatini borders are all within about 90 minutes.

In Marloth Park

The only fence inside Marloth Park is the one around Lionspruit, so the animals come to you. Give them space and never feed them by hand. Read the Marloth Park rules on what you may feed before your first evening, and see our wildlife guide for what you're likely to see.

  • Lionspruit is the 1,500 ha reserve on the south side of Marloth Park, where the lion and buffalo live. You drive it in your own car.
  • River viewing costs nothing. The public lookouts on Seekoei Street face Kruger across the Crocodile River, and late afternoon is the best time to go.
  • Game drives in an open vehicle go into Kruger, and sunset drives follow the river through Marloth.
  • A free guided bird walk runs on the first Saturday of the month, and there's a flea market at Henk van Rooyen Park on some Saturdays. See our events page for the next dates before you go.

With children along, see Marloth Park with kids for the water park, the age limits on game drives and how to stay safe around the animals.

Kruger for the day

Most people go into Kruger at least once. You can drive yourself in through Crocodile Bridge and pay the daily conservation fee at the gate, or book a guided drive that fetches you from your house. Our Kruger day trip guide has a route for the south and the time you need to be out by. The gate times page has opening and closing hours for every month.

A short drive away

Kambaku golf course in Komatipoort is about 29 km from Marloth, and visitors can play if they book. Leopard Creek near Malelane is a private club with stricter rules. See golf near Marloth Park for both, and for Malelane's club course.

Day trips further afield

The Lebombo border into Mozambique is about 32 km away, and Eswatini's Jeppe's Reef border is 1 h 20-1 h 25 min by car. The Panorama Route is further, so plan a long day. Our day trips page has distances, border hours and what to pack.
