Privacy notice
Last checked 26 October 2026
We collect as little personal information as we can. This notice explains what we collect and why, and sets out your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect
When you email us
We keep your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you write. We use it to reply to you and to fix the site. We keep it for as long as we need to deal with your message, and then we delete it.
When you visit the site
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) and records things like the pages you view, roughly where you are, your device and how you found us. It doesn't give us your name or contact details. Google keeps this data for 14 months and processes it on servers outside South Africa. We don't use Google's advertising features.
The weather box
To show today's weather, your browser asks Open-Meteo for the Marloth forecast. Open-Meteo sees your IP address, as any website you load would.
We don't sell your personal information or share it with anyone else.
Turning off analytics
You can block cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same either way.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it or delete it. Email hello@hellomarloth.co.za and we'll help.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
Changes to this notice
If we start collecting more, for example when we add a newsletter, we'll update this notice first. Where the law requires it, we'll ask for your consent.
