Where to stay in Marloth Park

Most places to stay in Marloth Park are self-catering houses you rent whole. This is what they cost by size, and how early to book for the holidays.

Last checked 26 October 2026

A thatched bush house with a covered patio and loungers

In October 2026 the middle asking price in Marloth Park was about R1,500 a night for a unit that sleeps two, and about R1,988 for a house that sleeps five or six. Per person, the bigger houses work out much cheaper. Book early for December: 92% of places were already taken for Christmas week by late October.

What kinds of places there are

Most places here are self-catering. You rent a whole house or cottage on its own stand, with a kitchen, a braai and often a pool. There are guest houses and lodges that let rooms or units too, and a few big villas at the top end. Marloth Park has 552 places to stay in all.

The animals are the main reason people come. Kudu, zebra, warthog and giraffe wander through the gardens, and the bushbabies come out at night. Stays here score 4.6 out of 5 on average. Before you book, ask the host about the road in, the aircon, the backup power and the Wi-Fi. Our checklist for before you book goes through each one.

The houses are outside Kruger. Marloth Park is on the other side of the Crocodile River, and you drive into the park through a gate on the days you choose. If you're deciding between a house here and a rest camp, see Marloth Park or inside Kruger.

For a couple, under R1,200 a night is the budget end and R1,200-R2,500 is the middle of the market. Above R2,500 you're paying for the upper end. For a house that sleeps six, budget is about R1,200-R1,500, the middle R1,500-R2,500 and the upper end R2,500-R3,500. Villas start at about R5,000 a night.

Couples and families

Couples pay the most per person. A couple's unit at the middle price of R1,500 comes to R750 each a night. A house for six at about R1,988 is about R330 each. Across all places, the middle price per bed was about R400 a night.

That makes Marloth good value for families and groups, especially next to a rest camp inside Kruger, where you pay per unit plus the daily park fee for every day you stay. Couples should compare more carefully, because a mid-range Marloth unit and a Kruger bungalow cost about the same.

December and Easter

Marloth fills up over the December school holidays. This is how the holidays looked on 26 October 2026:

The places still free in December cost only a little more than usual. The hard part is finding one, especially a family house. Only about a dozen places sleeping four to six were still free for each of the Christmas and New Year weeks. Book December by the middle of the year. Easter 2027 still had plenty of choice in late October.

Some hosts set a minimum stay over the holidays, so ask before you book.

Specials

About 22% of Marloth places had a special on 26 October 2026. The middle discount was 10%, and the biggest was 60% for a last-minute booking. Most specials are one of these:

  • stay four nights and pay for three, mostly in the quiet months from October to early December and in January and February
  • about 15% off a mid-week stay with no Friday or Saturday night, usually with a two-night minimum
  • 20% off five nights or more, or 30-35% off seven nights or more
  • last-minute discounts of 15% or more if you book a few days ahead

Check what the special asks of you, like a minimum stay or a non-refundable booking, before you count on it.

Compare the price for the whole stay

Some places add a once-off cleaning or admin fee. Cleaning fees run R260-R1,200. Some hosts ask for a refundable breakage deposit as well. Cancellation terms differ a lot from host to host. One host refunds the full deposit if you cancel more than a month ahead and half if it's more than a week. Another refunds the full amount up to a week before and half up to 48 hours before. Read the terms before you pay.

Before you pay, run through our before you book checklist too, and read the Marloth Park rules that every guest follows.
