A private ambulance may send you a bill afterwards if you don't have medical aid or a membership. If you're visiting from abroad, check what your travel insurance covers and keep its emergency number with these.
What to say when you call
In Marloth, houses are found by stand number, and there are no street lights. So while all is well, write down:
- Your stand number, the house name and the street.
- The gate you came in through. Gate 2 is the one off the tarred Tenbosch turn-off.
- Your host's phone number.
When you call, say what has happened and give your name and phone number. Then give the location: "Marloth Park, stand number..., near...". Stay on the line until the call taker ends the call. If you can, send someone out to the road with a torch to wave the ambulance down.
Hospitals
The nearest hospital is Tonga Hospital, a public hospital about 60 km south of Marloth, roughly an hour's drive. The private hospitals with 24-hour emergency units are in Mbombela, about 100 km away on the N4, which takes a little longer. For anything serious, call an ambulance and phone the hospital on the way. Don't drive yourself.
