Kruger gate times in March

March 2027 gate times, with an earlier closing time and sunrise in Marloth Park. The month ends busy, with Easter falling inside the school holidays.

In March, Kruger's entrance gates open at 05:30 and every gate closes at 18:00, half an hour earlier than in February. That goes for Crocodile Bridge too. The camp gates open with the entrance gates.

The gate opens before sunrise all month, by about 15 minutes at the start and half an hour by the end. That bit of dawn is good time to be on the road. In the evening, sunset moves from well after closing time to a few minutes before it.

Holidays in March 2027

  • Human Rights Day falls on Sunday 21 March, so Monday 22 March is a public holiday.
  • Good Friday is 26 March, and Family Day is Monday 29 March.
  • Schools close on Friday 19 March, and the school holidays run 20 March to 5 April 2027.

That puts two long weekends inside the school holidays at the end of the month, and those are the days when the gates most often reach their daily limit for day visitors. Easter quotas and any pre-booking for 2027 hadn't been announced by 26 October 2026; see quotas and pre-booking. Until 19 March, schools are in term.

What March is like in the park

March is the end of summer and usually brings the last big rains. Skukuza in Kruger has an average March high of 33 °C and an average low of 19 °C, with about 80 mm of rain. The bush is still thick, so game viewing is hit and miss. It's the peak breeding time for kudu and buffalo.

When to leave Marloth

Crocodile Bridge is about 20-30 min from Marloth Park. Leave by 05:00 to be at the gate when it opens at 05:30, and over Easter and the long weekends, be there at opening time or before.

Lower Sabie is 34 km from the gate, a little over an hour at the 30 km/h average to plan on. With the earlier closing, leave Lower Sabie by 16:45 to be through Crocodile Bridge before 18:00. That's half an hour earlier than in February.

The day fee stays at R140 for a South African adult until 31 October 2027. See Kruger fees for the full list.

Other months: February, April or the whole year.
